This picture displays the different elements during the times listed at the bottom. Around noon, it was very quiet, almost silent, and pretty chilly with light smoke. Later that evening, the roar of the wind grew the tiniest bit louder, the smoke thickened and the temperature grew hotter. At half past nine, the fire was visible, just below the horizon, the temperature grew a little hotter and the wind and fire grew a little louder. At nine the fire, again grew larger, and so did the noise of the wind and fire. Also, the temperature grew still a little hotter. At ten, the fire still grew bigger and even hotter and the noise louder. 20 minutes later, after ten o'clock, the noise from the fire was blaring loud, like a siren, and the air was so thick with smoke and fire and the temperature was so hot and searing it wiped the whole town of Peshtigo in only 20 minutes. |
